Candida

Candidiasis is caused by an overgrowth of candida albicans which is a naturally occurring yeast present in the body. This can be caused by any number of reasons.

Common reasons for an overgrowth include:
Use of the contraceptive pill or HRT for more than 6 months
Use of NSAIDs (non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs)
Use of antibiotics
A diet high in sugar, fat or alcohol
High stress levels
Reduced immune function (as in the case of serious illness such as Aids, Cancer and Autoimmune disease)
Low levels of stomach acid
Pregnancy (due to hormonal changes)

Symptoms are extensive but commonly include:
Chronic fatigue
Moodswings
Weight gain and bloating
Irrational crying or tearfulness
IBS
Food sensitivities
Cravings for sweetfoods, bread and alcohol
Intolerance to Alcohol
Balance and co-ordination problems
Recurrent cystitis
Itchy Anus
Persistent vaginal or oral thrush
Skin problems – Acne, eczema, rashes, athlete’s foot
Panic attacks
Anxiety and depression
Itchy, burning or gritty feeling in the eyes
Fuzzy head or brain fog
Lack of short term memory
Severe PMS
Insomnia
Feeling of hopelessness
Muscular aches and pains
Irritability
Migraine
